Childhood Wounds
Relationships get to the point of being on life support because each person gets stuck at the point they were wounded as a child. Your wounds are like a a sonar tracking system, looking for someone who feels the same as your original attachment figure(s).
Relationship wound repair works because you are showing up for the right reasons. Often in couples counseling, only one person really wants to be there while the other agrees to go only to please or because they feel guilty. You and your partner are showing up for different reasons and have the unrealistic expectation the counselor will serve the purpose of “tie breaker”, telling your partner they are the one who has the flaws and issues. It is an ego saving game of “I got ya!” The way to improve an existing or new relationship is to do your own work and untangle your own childhood wounds.
Give me a call or contact me for a FREE 15 minute consultation to see if I am a good fit for what you are going through.
I specialize in trauma-focused therapies that address childhood trauma and PTSD, sexual abuse, grief/loss counseling, life transitions, depression, anxiety, and personality disorders.
